Expository Paragraph
When you read your textbook, the newspaper, magazine articles, or any
other types of publications, you are reading expository writing. When you write
answers for an essay test, you use the expository form.
In an expository paragraph, you give information. You
explain a subject, give directions, or show how something happens. In
expository writing, linking words like first, second, then, and finally are
usually used to help readers follow the ideas.
This paragraph, like any other, organizes itself around three parts.
A topic sentence allows the reader to understand what you are
writing about. The middle part of the paragraph contains supporting
sentences that follow one another in a logical sequence of steps.
The concluding sentence closes your subject with an emphasis
on the final product or process desired by the topic.
Remember that all paragraphs should contain a topic sentence. It may be
even more important in the expository paragraph because this is where the main
idea of the paragraph is expressed. This topic sentence lets the reader know
what the rest of the paragraph will discuss.

Introductory Paragraph
|
Smoking is one activity which is liked by many
people around the world especially for men. In Islam, smoking is not
forbidden but it is a useless something, because it just waste money and
spend time. On the other hand, smoking is not good for health because it
can disturb the system of respiration.
In Indonesia smoking has been being a culture, because anytime and everywhere
is often found the people who smoke. There are so many smokers and every
years the doer of smoker more increase than before. Based on the fact, there
are so many factory of cigarettes in Indonesia and sure it has provided
variaton of brand cigarettes. Cigarettes is easy to find in Indonesia,
whether in great supermarket or small shop, moreover the price of cigarettes
is cheap and achieved if compared with the other country.

Body Paragraph
|
Phenomenon of smoking in Indonesia is not something strange, and the
dominant doer of smoking is teenagers. The avearge age of smoker in Indonesia
is between 10-15 years old, and it is the phase where they are in elementary
school or junior high school. It’s worry condition, because the teenager has
been touched by bad habit of smoking. Smoking for teenager is dangerous
enough because can disturb their healthy, study, and life. Although there are
so many bad effect of smoking, the teenagers still smoke, in order to show
their maturity.
There are some following reason why the teenager smoke. First,
environnment association. The teenager always gather together
with their friends and usually when they are hanging out, there are some
their friends offer the cigarettes and it is easy to influnece the other
friends to smoke because they think that if all of them smoke together it can
show their solidarity and their maturity as a man. The influence of smoking
not only come from their friends, but also it can be from their family. If
their parents or their family have smoking habit and it is looked by them,
surely the teenager feel curious and want to try smoking. So, the
environment association is very influential towards the smoking habit.
Second, the reason of teenagers to smoke is to get attention from the
another people. One of characteristic of teenager is
show their self idenitity. Nowadays, there are so many ways for teenager to
show their characteristic, one of that ways is smoking. They think that if
they are smoking in front of many people it can prove that they have been
being a mature person or great person. As a result, the teenagers are
proud with themselves because of their smoking habit.
Lastly, but not the last why teens smoke cigarettes is feeling stress. Time and again the teenagers face many problems such as
problem with their family, their school and their life. Consequently, smoking
will be their escape to release their problem. Moreover, at the their
environment association they look their friends who smokes enjoyably and they
look so very happy as though they have no problem in their life so, they want
to feel the same matter.Therefore, the teenagers think that smoking
cigarettes can solve their problem.

Concluding Paragraph
|
In conlusion, smoking is culture in Indonesia and
the dominant doer of smoking is teenager in elementary schhol and junior high
school. There are some reason why teens smoke cigarettes, such as because of
their environment association, to get attention from the other people, and
feeling stress. It is clear if smoke cigarettes is dangerous for health, so from
now it will better to avoid smoking.
